Why - because for one, not many people watch Kurosawa today, and second, I thought it's not easily available in India.

I'm happy you're watching these films! :-)

Ikiru was a bit difficult to write about. Writing about great films one loves so much is difficult because one always has so much to say and is afraid that whatever one writes will not express it fully. Another factor is the ambiguity of whether to write it for the audience who may have seen it or for those who may have not seen it!

i was so bored of the bollywood fare and regular stuff that i had stopped my cable/dish and had decided to chk out the most alluring of the imdb top 250.
Shinchin amazed me with the kind of depth kurosawa had
also saw his dreams from a friends reco - understood the plot but it didnt quite click.

Thank you. I spent a lot of time in writing about Ikiru. Not easy, to say the least! :-)

Ijaazat was a favorite among us youngsters as it offered sensitive fare not easily found in Bollywood. Angoor is an all-time classic!

The Criterion DVDs offer most of Kurosawa's famous films, should be easy to get for you.

Excellent write up on Ikuru!
Somehow, I didnt like Ijaazat except the songs..I think Gulzar does wonders as a writer alone, but when he also directs, he goes too abstract/slow sometimes...
Although I absolutely loved his Angoor which was also directed by him.

Hmm...haven't seen In the Name of the Father! (Added)

If it interests you, Michael Radford, who made 'Il Postino', was born in New Delhi, India, to British and Austrian parents.
