Writing for MakeUseOf.com

A lot of things have been happening at An Unquiet Mind. A journalist quoted me in the Hyderabad edition of The Hindu. AUM is now on Twitter here and you can see my tweets in the sidebar.

muologoI have been chosen to contribute to MakeUseOf.com on a trial basis. I have loved MUO since a long time, and I am eagerly looking forward to writing about “Cool Websites, Software and Internet Tips”.

MakeUseOf.com has 54K+ subscribers, and is part of PC Magazine’s “Top 50 Blogs”.

This is my first foray into professional writing since 1996. Wish me luck! :-)

PS: Do you like the new About Myself?

  • wow. best of luck. i’m sure you’d not need it, but it’s the least I could do.

  • Wow…this is great news! Congrats, and good luck!

The new ‘about me’ is very unique. It is a good idea, but maybe too abstract. Maybe you could also throw in some text to go with the cloud? Unless this is the amount of information you want to share.

  • Saw your updates on twitter and checked your blog. Nice stuff dude. will make it a point to visit it regularly.

Haven’t seen the old ‘About Myself’ but liked the new one.

Congrats on being quoted in the news paper.

You should add MakeUseOf.com in your ‘Blogs I Read’ list ;)

  • महेंद्र, हार्दीक अभिनंदन! :-)

I didn’t know MUO, neither do I tweet, but I checked it out and I like it.

  • wish you all the luck Mahendra.
am sure you are going to enjoy it as much as your readers do — go, ride

  • Best of luck :) Actually I think your writing could very well be featured in most Indian newspapers or magazines. I’d recommend Tehelka and Caravan, both of which seem to seek new and fresh writers most of the time

  • Best of luck for your new innings! :)

  • Poonam, you are mis-spelling your own name? :-)

  • Best of luck Mahendra! I am not at all surprised you are on to this, as it seems just the thing you would do and I am sure you will do great! And you are on Twitter too! Looks like the whole world is on Twitter!

  • Thank you, Pooanam! :-)

  • So, as a national newspaper says, you write humor? And what is this AUM, and MUO, etc?
Thinking about it is giving me PUS.

  • Oh, I get it now (tubelight switched on).…

  • […] daughter & family, I switched gears to working online. As most of my blogger friends know, I started writing for MakeUseOf.com as a contributor, and am now a staff writer. I still needed additional work to […]

  • :-) Thanks, asuph! Nice to see you here!

  • Thank you! Yes, let me start with this much level of sharing…maybe I can add more specific clouds later? ;-)

  • Hey Anand, welcome to my blog! Hope you do visit regularly.

Oh no, MakeUseOf will be in a special category of its own! :-)

And btw, sorry for not being able to chat — I was in the process of signing off for the day. Hope to catch you online sometime.

  • प्रिय प्रियांक, धन्यवाद!

  • Thank You! :-)

  • OMG, His Highness is here! :-) My gratitude for your kind comments, and coming from you, they mean a lot!

I’d never heard of Tehelka and Caravan newspapers! Oh well, I’ve enough on my plate already, but thanks for the tip. BTW, what’re you doing at this hour commenting on others’ blogs?! Again, honored to have you here, Sir.

  • Thank you, Nita! :-) I remember you had encouraged me to write more ‘how-to’ tech posts for non-techies, and this venture is very much like that. So let’s see how it goes.

I have followed twitter’s growth since the last two years, but kept away from it until now. Still learning how to make it useful rather than annoying!

  • Doc, consider this to be the nerds’ response to all those medical acronyms that’ve been thrown to us ordinary citizens over the ages…MD(x), PH(x), and so on.…:-)
